Dominik Szoboszlai Back in the Game with a Header against Chelsea

Hungary Today 2024.02.01.

Chelsea failed to match Liverpool’s level in Wednesday’s Premier League clash, reports Magyar Nemzet. The Reds started with two goals in the first half, but after the break, Dominik Szoboszlai increased the difference with a beautiful header. Chelsea scored in the second half, but Liverpool still won 4-1.

Of the three key players returning for the game against Chelsea, only Dominik Szoboszlai was included in the starting line-up, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson on the bench.

Liverpool has struggled against the other teams in the big six (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur) this season, losing one game and four draws in the Premier League. The Reds were looking to improve on that statistic on Wednesday night, with the visitors barely crossing the halfway line.

Fans did not have to wait too long for the first goal by Jürgen Klopp’s team.

Conor Bradley got the ball and set up Diogo Jota, who broke inside the penalty area between two visiting players and finished the attack accurately with a goal in the 23rd minute (1-0).

The aforementioned Bradley has been getting more game time in recent weeks due to Alexander-Arnold’s injury, and he repaid the favor with a fantastic performance. He had three assists in the games against Bournemouth and Norwich, and has now scored his first goal against Chelsea.

After the break, the game did not change much and Bradley’s parade continued. Szoboszlai headed the ball into the net from seven meters out in the 65th minute (3-0).

Szoboszlai’s goal:

The Hungarian midfielder was on the pitch until the 68th minute, and with a reassuring lead, he was substituted by Klopp along with three of his teammates. Szoboszlai could only see from the bench that Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku had scored in the 71st minute (3-1).

However, Luis Díaz quickly dashed any hopes of scoring for the Londoners. In the 79th minute, the Colombian winger set the final result 4-1.

Premier League, round 22:
Liverpool-Chelsea 4-1
Scorers: Jota (23rd), Bradley (39th), Szoboszlai (65th), Díaz (79th), Nkunku (71st)
