Domestic Tourism Sector Receives Prestigious Awards from China

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.02.19.

The Hungarian tourism sector has received five major professional awards from China, one of the most important sending countries. China’s National Geographic Travel has recommended Hungary as one of the top destinations and Voyage Magazine has chosen Hungary as the New Emerging Destination of the Year.

China’s leading tourism media and the largest accommodation booking platform also ranked the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) among the best in several categories for its country image-building and traffic promotion activities, MTÜ announced in a statement.

With almost 200 million international travelers, China is one of the world’s largest foreign markets, and therefore is also of great importance for Hungarian tourism.

For this reason, it is of great significance that Hungary has been awarded the Gold Certificate of Quality Destination by the Chinese edition of National Geographic Traveler, one of the most well-known and longest-running travel magazines. Our country has been chosen as the New Emerging Destination of the Year by the equally popular international version of Voyage Magazine in China. The country also won two awards in the National Tourism News, China’s leading tourism media, for Best Regional Innovation and Promotion

and was also among the top five best study destinations in China.

The MTÜ also reported that

Tongcheng Travel, a leading accommodation booking platform, awarded the title of Best Partner 2023 to the Chinese-Hungarian tourism development cooperation.

Fact

Last year, the number of visitors from China to Hungary quadrupled compared to 2022, and further growth is expected in 2024. This is also thanks to Hungary being the first Schengen area country to welcome tourist groups from China after the opening of the country’s borders at the beginning of the year. According to data from the National Tourism Data Supply Center, 320 percent more Chinese tourists arrived in Hungary in 2023 than in 2019, making it a peak year.

The statement quoted László Könnyid, CEO of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, as saying that “from the much-anticipated opening of the border, we will continuously promote our country to Chinese travelers with high potential in line with our international sales strategy. We have strengthened our presence in the Chinese market and consolidated our cooperation with our professional tourism partners. In our campaigns, we have placed great emphasis on promoting our unique natural resource, our thermal waters. We are proud of the awards we have won, as they show that we are on the right track in attracting Chinese visitors,” he said.
