The 2024/25 ski season in Hungary is set to begin just after Christmas, with Sípark Mátraszentistván (northern Hungary) leading the way, reports Világgazdaság. The 20-year-old ski park opened its slopes on December 26 at 9.30 a.m., featuring Hungary’s only four-seater panorama lift in the mountains.
The ski park plans to remain open daily throughout the winter break, offering lighted evening skiing depending on weather conditions.
Prices for ski passes will remain frozen at levels from two years ago, and SZÉP cards (popular fringe benefit) will continue to be accepted, making it a cost-effective option for skiers and snowboarders.
Initially, four ski runs will be available, including beginner-friendly slopes and a one-kilometer-long trail descending from the panorama lift’s upper station to the valley. For safety reasons, sledging will not be permitted. As temperatures drop, more trails and lifts are expected to open. Up-to-date information can be found on the Sípark Mátraszentistván website and Facebook page.
In Eplény (western Hungary), the Síaréna Vibe Park also began its season on December 26. The T1 learning track and learning lift will open, catering to beginners and young skiers. Training sessions can be booked starting December 24 at 3.30 p.m. The rental shop is also operational, and visitors can enjoy refreshments at Holle Mother’s Hut.
The operators are optimistic about opening the full-length slope “1.” by December 27, weather permitting.
Updates will be shared on the ski park’s website and social media platforms.
While Mátraszentistván and Eplény prepare for the season, other popular ski locations like Kékestető (northern Hungary) and Bánkút (northeastern Hungary) remain closed for now. As winter weather intensifies, enthusiasts hope for more resorts to join the season soon. For now, skiers can enjoy the festive atmosphere on Hungary’s slopes.
