The development of the Hungarian armed forces has entered an important stage with the replacement of the old Russian-made BTR armored personnel carriers with new Lynx armored infantry fighting vehicles, the Minister of Defense said at a training exercise on Tuesday in Tatárszentgyörgy, Pest County.
He said that the armored vehicles that will take part in the exercise represent new technology not only in the Hungarian Defense Forces, but also in the world. He called the service the soldiers are performing unique, as they are learning to drive the new combat vehicles and also developing combat procedures for them.
The Lynx has been produced in Hungary since the end of 2023, and the first combat vehicle has already rolled off the assembly line of the Zalaegerszeg factory (western Hungary),
the Defense Minister noted.
Although the Lynx was developed by the German company Rheinmetall, he stressed that it is actually a “domestic product” because it is manufactured in Hungary.
He also mentioned that he was very proud of the newly recruited young Hungarians who were developing the combat techniques for these vehicles. “With the new recruits and the soldiers who have served in the past, we have managed to create a complete battalion,” he added.
Lieutenant General Ferenc Kajári, Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff, said that the delivery of the Lynx combat vehicles to the 30th Kinizsi Pál Armored Infantry Brigade of the Hungarian Defense Forces, began in 2023, when recruitment for the new combat vehicles also started. According to his assessment, the Lynx battalion is well on the way to becoming not only the best equipped but also the best trained unit of the Hungarian Defense Forces.
