Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén Expresses Hungary’s Support in Vojvodina

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.12.14.

Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén spoke in Csonoplya, Serbia about the upcoming elections and the support of the local Hungarian community.

“The Hungarian state naturally supports all Hungarian communities abroad, but it must be seen that this support can take on a completely different quality if there is an institutional system capable of receiving and organizing support from Hungary,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Help and support is most easily achieved if the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ) can have a strong presence in the political life of Vojvodina and Serbia.

He pointed out that István Pásztor, the late President of the VMSZ, who passed away at the end of October, had played a significant role in the development of Hungarian national policy and in the fantastic result of cultural autonomy in Vojvodina and Hungarian-Serbian reconciliation.

For a hundred years, being Hungarian was a disadvantage. Now it should finally be an advantage

that Hungarian kindergartens and Hungarian schools are of better quality than the institutions of the majority nationalities in the Carpathian Basin,” Zsolt Semjén stressed.

VMSZ politicians said on the spot that they have the only Hungarian list in the elections, and that VMSZ is the party that can properly represent the interests of Hungarians in Vojvodina, as it has done in the past.
