Szalay-Bobrovniczky Kristóf, Hungary’s Minister of Defense, and Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defense Staff, honored military athletes of the 33rd Summer Olympics at a ceremony in Budapest.

Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky praised Hungary’s Olympic achievements, highlighting, “it is always wonderful to be Hungarian, but after this Olympics, it is especially wonderful.” He noted Hungary’s strong performance, with 19 medals including 6 golds, placing the country 14th on the medal table.

The Minister also commended the military athletes for their exemplary performances, stating,

our soldiers in the sports regiment demonstrated exceptional skill, and their achievements as both athletes and soldiers are a testament to their capability.”

Each military Olympic athlete will receive a uniform bonus, regardless of their medal status.

The Chief of the Defense Staff emphasized the inspirational role of military athletes, saying they serve as a significant motivator and role model for both the army and Hungarian youth. At the ceremony, 20 military Olympians received certificates and commemorative medals, with Gergely Siklósi, an Olympic gold medalist in fencing, being promoted to lieutenant as a special honor.
