The Hungarian Defense Forces have completed the transition to modern anti-tank weaponry, marking a significant milestone in the country’s military development program. All Carl Gustaf M4 hand-held anti-tank systems, procured under a contract with Saab Bofors Dynamics, have been delivered, Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced. These advanced systems replace the Soviet-era RPG-7 grenade launchers that have served for decades.
The delivery also included the final batch of HEAT 751 grenades, rounding off the comprehensive procurement project, writes honvedelem.hu. The Carl Gustaf M4 is widely regarded as one of the Swedish military industry’s most successful portable armored systems. Used by the armed forces of more than 40 countries, it offers unparalleled versatility with five different grenade types tailored for various operational scenarios.
Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky highlighted the weapon’s adaptability, noting that it can be employed effectively against enemy personnel, and military equipment.
The Carl Gustaf M4’s advanced guidance systems allow for accurate targeting under diverse conditions, day or night.
“With its modern optics and laser-guided systems, the M4 is capable of hitting stationary targets up to 1,000 meters and moving targets at approximately 400 meters. It can deploy smoke and destructive shells at a range of one kilometer, and with laser guidance, it can strike targets as far as two kilometers away,” the politician said.
The adoption of the Carl Gustaf M4 reflects Hungary’s commitment to aligning its military capabilities with modern standards. This system enhances the agility and effectiveness of land forces, providing superior fire support capabilities that are crucial for diverse combat scenarios.
Beyond its technical prowess, the M4’s lightweight design and ergonomic features make it highly portable, further boosting its operational utility.
The system is designed for quick deployment and precise firepower, making it a key asset in Hungary’s military modernization strategy.
The military development program has prioritized the replacement of outdated Soviet-era equipment with cutting-edge technology. This transition not only improves Hungary’s national defense capabilities but also strengthens its position within NATO by ensuring interoperability with allied forces.
