As previously announced, due to the situation in Ukraine, the Hungarian Defense Forces are redeploying troops and equipment to the eastern regions of the country. “There is no war in Hungary, there is peace, and we want to preserve it,” the Defense Forces wrote in a Facebook post.
“The Ministry of Defense has recently received numerous letters, phone calls, and requests from citizens regarding the movement of military vehicles, helicopters, and Gripen aircraft in the eastern part of the country,” the post begins.
Although there is no war in Hungary,
As the head of the ministry has said at several forums in recent days, the Hungarian Defense Forces are redeploying soldiers and equipment to the eastern regions of the country due to the situation in Ukraine. Currently, the population of our country is not in direct danger. The people of the country have nothing to worry about, nothing to fear, their daily lives are not affected.”
The Defense Forces also asked people to “have confidence in the Hungarian Defense Forces, in the professional and competent work of our soldiers.”
“However, the Hungarian Defense Forces must be prepared for any possibility in order to guarantee the security of the country and its citizens, and will therefore continue the redeployment of technical equipment and the securing of airspace, which started a few days ago,” they continue. The post also asked for the patience and understanding of those living near the border, “as the movement of the land and air assets deployed can be noisy both day and night. Please understand that we are doing all this in the interest of preserving peace and security and protecting the Hungarian people.”
Many people have set off from Ukraine for Hungary, with police reporting that there is a traffic jam at border crossings.
Defense Minister Tibor Benkő said on Tuesday that the Ministry of Defense is responsible for preventing armed groups from entering the country and carrying out maneuvers.
