The first Leguan 2HU bridge layer vehicle has arrived at the Tata barracks (northwestern Hungary), and at the same time the brigade’s equipment fleet has been expanded with three more Leopard 2A7HU tanks, further strengthening the ground forces, the Hungarian Defense Forces revealed on its Facebook page.
The Leguan 2 is a bridge layer tracked armored vehicle, or AVLB (Armoured Vehicle-Launched Bridge), designed and manufactured by KNDS-Germany. The vehicle is based on the Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank (MBT) tracked chassis and the interoperability of the Leguan bridge laying system.
The Leguan 2 bridge layer can configure one bridge of 26 meters length or two of 14 meters length. Designed for the Leopard 2, it is operated by just two people who are aided by graphical instruments. It takes about five to six minutes to lay the bridge.
The system offers many additional equipment features, such as a cooling system, auxiliary power generator, and all-round vision gear, guaranteeing top-notch performance and endurance.

The new acquisitions were also welcomed by the Minister of Defense: “Highly trained, ready for action Hungarian soldiers, high-tech big iron – that is what we are talking about!”
Hungary needs a strong, modern, and capable Defense Forces,”
he added.
As Hungary Today previously reported, the government decided to develop defense capabilities in 2016, and shortly afterwards launched the defense and military development program. The modernized armored force is scheduled to reach its completion in 2028, with 44 Leopard 2A7HU, five Wisent 2HU armored support vehicles, and three Leguan 2HU bridge launchers arriving in Hungary by then.
