The Hungarian Air Force’s Airbus H225 helicopters will arrive this summer, Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced in a Facebook video after a recent test flight of one in Várpalota.
The aircraft will be fitted with a special weapons system called H-Force, the minister highlighted. He added that the Hungarian Air Force would be the first in the world to introduce “this combination with this weapon system,” meaning it is a unique feature.
Here in Várpalota, we could see how this unguided missile was fired and hit its target precisely, the Defense Minister stated in his video. “This is a very modern 21st-century major development in the digital force,” which will soon be operational in the Hungarian Air Force, he added. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky also emphasized that in these challenging times, “peace requires strength, and we will continue to work.”
The H-Force weapon management system is characterized by fast target acquisition, high targeting accuracy, and high firepower. These capabilities were previously only available in attack helicopters. Airbus is expected to deliver 16 Airbus H225M medium transport helicopters for the Hungarian Defense Forces later this year.
In addition to the helicopters, the Hungarian Defense Forces will also receive new Lynx infantry fighting vehicles this year, the Defense Minister said in a video posted on his social media page after talks with the heads of German defense company Rheinmetall. Series production of the Lynx has recently started at Rheinmetall’s plant in Zalaegerszeg in western Hungary. The Lynx, the world’s most advanced tracked infantry fighting vehicle, will be produced in 172 units by 2029.
