Cultural Festival Awaits Wine and Jazz Lovers in Debrecen

60 wineries and one 180 musicians will take part in this year’s Wine and Jazz Days in Debrecen’s Nagyerdő (forest park; in eastern Hungary) between August 8-11, the organizers announced at a press conference in the heart of the city on Wednesday.

László Papp, mayor of Debrecen, called the wine and jazz days a quality cultural event in the city, with a tradition of several decades, where renowned artists of the national and international jazz scene will take to the stage. According to Réka Mészáros, managing director of the organizer Főnix Rendezvényszervező Kft., it is the city’s most atmospheric festival, where, in addition to the finest Hungarian wines and the top musicians of the Hungarian jazz scene, dance will also play a prominent role this year.

As for the details, 60 wineries from six Hungarian wine regions will offer their best wines on the shores of Lake Békás in Nagyerdő, while 180 musicians from 35 bands will play at the three music venues.

Among the festival’s headliners will be Steve Hackett, former guitarist of the world-famous band Genesis, who will perform with the band Djabe on August 11. Djabe has performed five times in Debrecen in the last 16 years, and now they are coming to the Nagyerdő with their latest show, Attila Égerházi, the band’s founding member, told the press conference. The festival will also feature the duo of Bálint Gyémánt and Krisztián Oláh, Gyula Éliás and the Funkustic Quartet, Balázs Bágyi New Quartet, Jazzation, Eszter Váczi, Bálint Gájer and the Debrecen Dixieland Band.

In addition, for the first time, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a jazz dance workshop with two dance schools from Debrecen, one from Kecskemét and one from Budapest.
