The Hungarian National Museum hosted one of the country’s most prestigious nature photography events on April 5. The full house event brought together hundreds of nature photographers, conservation professionals, institutions, and nature lovers, writes Turizmus.com.
In addition to the award ceremony and exhibition opening, the evening was also a celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Magical Hungary photo contest, which has become one of the most prestigious photography competitions in the country. The competition is unique in that it is not held once a year, but every year for nine months in several categories.
Besides the monthly competitions, at the end of the year, the photographers can also win the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize and the accompanying Golden Crane statue.
In fifteen years, Hungarian nature photographers have entered more than 45,000 photos, and this year’s field was very strong. Including the winners of the nine categories, the nature photographers who received the highest scores from the professional jury this season were also announced.
The most successful photographer of the season, the winner of the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize, and the owner of the Golden Crane statue that embodies the prize, was Csaba Daróczi for the eighth time, with László Hargitai in second place and Tibor Litauszki in third.
Guests also had the opportunity to admire the exhibition of 175 photos by 69 artists. The exhibition featured the portfolios of the first three winners of the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize, as well as the winners of the various categories. The exhibition presents a representative selection of the magical natural world of Hungary’s ten national parks.
The exhibition “From the works of the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize” will be open in six venues over the next year:
