Coronavirus: More than 45,000 New Cases Over the Weekend, Number of Hospitalizations Rapidly Rising

Altogether 176 patients died of a Covid-related illness over the past 72 hours, while 45,407 new coronavirus infections were registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Monday.

The number of active infections has risen to 231,601, while hospitals are treating 3,903  Covid-19 patients, 150 of whom are intubated on a ventilator.

Since the first outbreak, 41,405 deaths have been recorded, while 1,553,405 have been registered with the virus. Fully 1,280,399 people have made a recovery.

So far 6,363,112 people have received a first jab, while 6,101,699 have been fully vaccinated. Fully 3,683,719 Hungarians have received a booster jab.

There are 29,596 people in official quarantine, while 9,936,724 tests have been officially carried out.

The website said the omicron variant was spreading rapidly.

The government re-introduced compulsory mask-wearing in enclosed spaces from November 20.
