Coronavirus: 64 Fatalities, Almost 20,000 New Cases in 24 Hours

Altogether 64 patients died of a Covid-related illness over the past 24 hours, while 19,213 new coronavirus infections were registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Thursday.

The number of active infections has risen to 215,839, while hospitals are treating 3,267  Covid-19 patients, 157 of whom are intubated on a ventilator.

Since the first outbreak, 41,151 deaths have been recorded, while 1,490,489 have been registered with the virus. Fully 1,233,499 people have made a recovery.

So far 6,347,426 people have received a first jab, while 6,085,866 have been fully vaccinated. Fully 3,573,570 Hungarians have received a booster jab.

There are 26,734 people in official quarantine, while 9,887,968 tests have been officially carried out.

The website said the omicron variant was spreading rapidly.

The government re-introduced compulsory mask-wearing in enclosed spaces from November 20.
