Altogether 74 patients died of a Covid-related illness over the past 24 hours, while 9,717 new coronavirus infections were registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Tuesday.

The number of active infections has risen to 193,630, while hospitals are treating 3,115 Covid-19 patients, 177 of whom are intubated on a ventilator.

Since the first outbreak, 41,018 deaths have been recorded, while 1,451,102 have been registered with the virus. Fully 1,216,454 people have made a recovery.

So far 6,344,089 people have received a first jab, while 6,082,196 have been fully vaccinated. Fully 3,560,753 Hungarians have received a booster jab.

There are 24,128 people in official quarantine, while 9,812,780 tests have been officially carried out.

The website said the omicron variant was spreading rapidly.
