Coronavirus: 6,851 New Cases, 94 Deaths, Omicron Variant Spreading Rapidly

Altogether 94 patients died of a Covid-related illness over the past 24 hours, while 6,851 new coronavirus infections were registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Tuesday.

The number of active infections has risen to 137,628, while hospitals are treating 2,689 Covid-19 patients, 217 of whom are intubated on a ventilator.

Since the first outbreak, 1,355,084 have been registered with the virus, while 40,601 deaths have been recorded. Fully 1,176,855 people have made a recovery.

So far 6,321,039 people have received a first jab, while 6,062,346 have been fully vaccinated. Fully 3,423,900 Hungarians have received a booster jab.

There are 37 207 people in official quarantine, while 9,546,334 tests have been officially carried out.

The website said the omicron variant was spreading rapidly.

The government re-introduced compulsory mask-wearing in enclosed spaces from November 20.
