Immunity Certificates Could Become Void for Nearly Two Million Vaccinated People

Hungary Today 2022.01.14.

From February 15th, Hungarians will only be eligible for a vaccination certificate if they have received the third, booster jab or took the second dose not longer than 6 months ago, the prime minister’s chief of staff announced. Because of this, nearly two million vaccinated people could lose their immunity certificates if they do not get their third vaccination, or if more than six months have passed since their second one. However, in Hungary, the immunity certificate is barely needed anywhere, with the exception of sports events, music and dance events, or other events held indoors or outdoors with more than 500 people.

PMO Gergely Gulyás announced that the current immunity certificates will be converted into vaccination certificates from February 15. The latter will be issued to anyone who:

  • has had a second vaccination within six months
  • six months have passed since their second vaccination, but have had their third vaccination in the meantime,

24.hu reports. They looked at how many people would be affected if the new rules were introduced from today. According to 24.hu, the government’s coronavirus portal reported six months ago, on June 13, that 5.2 million people had received their second vaccination by then. The most recent figures as of Thursday morning show that 3.3 million people had received the third vaccination, meaning that 1.9 million vaccinated people would now not have access to a vaccination certificate, because they are the ones, who despite having received the second dose more than six months ago, have not yet applied for the third.

The number of people who have received a second vaccination has now surpassed the 6 million mark. This number could increase over time as the number of people who will have received their second vaccination more than six months ago, and do not receive the booster dose increases.

There is no accurate record of the number of people who have had a coronavirus infection, but vaccination certificates can only be obtained by vaccination, and those who have obtained immunity certificates after being infected will also lose them now.

Those who do not have a certificate are currently not allowed, for example, to attend sports events, music and dance events, or other events held indoors or outdoors with more than 500 people. However, they are still allowed to go to restaurants, hotels, etc., since the coronavirus measures in Hungary are very lenient, and the immunity certificate is barely needed anywhere.
