Cooperation Agreement to Accelerate Transition to Hydrogen Technologies

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.02.02.

Representatives of the hydrogen associations of nine Central European and Baltic states signed the official cooperation agreement of the 3 Seas Hydrogen Council (3S) in Paris, aiming to develop the hydrogen sector in the region.

At the Hyvolution conference, the world’s leading hydrogen technology showcase, hydrogen associations from the countries concerned – Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, and Ukraine – agreed to work together to identify and exploit synergies that can accelerate and facilitate the transition to hydrogen technologies, thereby helping to achieve the goal of a zero-emission economy.

The agreement, signed on Thursday, outlines the operating principles of the 3S, setting out specific objectives and a roadmap.

The 3 Seas Hydrogen Council was established last year in May to support the green transformation of the member countries, exploring opportunities for cooperation to develop a low-carbon economy in which hydrogen will play an important role. According to earlier information, the organization can represent the sector before the European Commission and the European Parliament.

István Lepsényi, President of the Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association, stressed in a statement that the hydrogen associations in the region are taking joint steps to ensure a fair distribution of EU funds in Central and Eastern Europe. He expressed the hope that

the agreement would support regional funding, promote industrial cooperation, and encourage joint projects to develop competitive green technology in the participating countries.

“The 3 Seas Hydrogen Council is committed to setting up a special discussion forum to examine European legislation and national policies affecting the hydrogen sector,” the statement quoted Veronika Vohlídková, board member and executive director of the Czech trade association HYTEP.
