The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the leading forum of the American right, starts today with a speech by the Hungarian Prime Minister, and ends Saturday with a speech by Donald Trump in Dallas.
The location is no coincidence: of the most populous states, Florida is a bastion of the American right, along with Republican-led Texas. Former President Donald Trump won in this state in 2016 and 2020.
Greg Abbott, the local governor, will open the CPAC directly before Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is one of a small number of foreign guests who will have the opportunity to speak in Dallas, Magyar Nemzet reports. According to the paper, his thirty minute speech is entitled The way we fight in the program.
“Viktor Orbán has advocated conservative policies, despite strong criticism of left-wing EU governments, which are closely aligned with the Republican Party’s platform for the next two election campaigns. In particular, on social issues and border security,” Andy Harris, a Republican congressman for Maryland said.
“Viktor Orbán is right: nations must defend their identities and borders, and Western civilization is based on Judeo-Christian values, especially the role and importance of the family,” added Harris, a member of Congress of Hungarian descent, whose father emigrated to the United States from Miskolc in the 1950s.
The Hungarian leadership makes no secret of the fact that it expects a Republican turnaround to improve Hungarian-American relations, writes Magyar Nemzet.
