Conditions Are in Place to Ensure Uninterrupted Gas and Oil Supplies

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.07.28.

All conditions are in place for the uninterrupted continuation of natural gas and oil supplies to Hungary, so we can rest assured about the preparations for winter, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó wrote on his Facebook page after a telephone call with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on Thursday to review the situation of energy supplies.

The Minister recalled that Europe has been facing a serious energy crisis for the past year and a half, with prices skyrocketing due to sanctions and the closure of regular supply routes. However, Hungary’s energy supply has remained stable throughout, because we have always seen energy security as a real physical issue.

“Yesterday afternoon, I had a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who is responsible for energy, to review the situation of energy supplies, and we concluded that all conditions are in place for the uninterrupted continuation of natural gas and oil supplies to Hungary, so we can rest assured that we can prepare for the winter”, wrote Szijjártó.

The Minister highlighted that

Alexander Novak assured us that Russian suppliers are committed to fulfilling the long-term contracts concluded earlier”.

He added that the Azeri energy company has started to inject the first 50 million cubic meters of gas into Hungarian storage facilities under the contract with Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR.
