The Chief of the Hungarian Defense Staff and the First Officer of the Italian Land Force praised the importance of bilateral military cooperation between Hungary and Italy at their meeting at the international military base in Újmajor near Veszprém (western Hungary).
General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defense Staff, received Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, who was on a one-day official visit to Hungary, accompanied by Chief Warrant Officer Michele Romano.
The parties exchanged views on the prospects for current and future challenges and identified areas of common interest where cooperation and interoperability should be strengthened.
At the base, known as Camp Croft in Újmajor, the Italian Lieutenant General visited NATO’s multinational Forward Land Force Battle Group, that includes some 250 Italian soldiers. Welcoming the Italian contingent, Lt. Gen. Masiello praised the commitment and courage of the soldiers. He stressed the need for the army to be ready to fight for the homeland and to act in the interests of the country.
During a static presentation at the Central Training and Firing Range, the guests were given an insight into the current state of the modernization of the Hungarian armed forces. In addition to all the newly acquired land-based technical equipment of the Hungarian Defense Forces, ranging from combat vehicles to small arms,
they were able to see the NASAMS air defense system and the water purification equipment of the Szentes Technical Regiment, and were given a thorough briefing on the capabilities of the weapons by the highly trained operators.
In Hungary, NATO’s multinational Forward Land Force Battle Group was established with the participation of Italy, Croatia, the United States and Türkiye. The Battle Group, which strengthens the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance, carries out training exercises and exercises to prepare for high-intensity defense operations.
