Dozens of programs – including festivals, balls, costume parades, cycling tours, and car shows – await visitors to Lake Balaton during the carnival period, the Balaton Tourism Association announced.
This year, at least thirty carnival events and winter carnival balls will lure visitors to the “Hungarian sea:” from a car race to a costume bike tour, numerous programs await tourists. The lively program of activities in the coming weeks will contribute significantly to the winter turnover of restaurants and hotels, Tamás Fekete, vice-president of the Balaton Tourism Association, was quoted as saying. He pointed out that better use of the winter season can reduce seasonal fluctuations, making the local economy more stable and creating a year-round buzz in the region, thereby creating more permanent jobs.

Among the most important events of the carnival season, the association’s statement highlights some of the biggest winter culinary events: the Révfülöpi Rianás and the Keszthely carnival on February 22.
Sports lovers will also be able to take part in the Balaton Bike Carnival on February 22 in Balatonfüred, with a parade of costumed cyclists.
The sixth edition of the annual winter cycling tour proves that it is possible to cycle around Lake Balaton 365 days a year.
Vehicle enthusiasts will also be in for a treat: the car carnival with “dressed up” vehicles will be held in Balatonlelle.
In Fonyód, to bid farewell to the winter, Busó (best known from the Mohács Busó Carnival), masked fire jugglers, concerts, and a gastro courtyard will await visitors at the Fonyód Winter Parade on February 22.

Most of the events in the region are part of the Balaton “1000 Reasons to Visit Lake Balaton” campaign, which invites people to spend time outside the high season. These programs “prove that the region offers attractions in every season,” said Péter Princzinger, CEO of VisitBalaton365.
