Christmas Message from the Hungary Today Team

Dániel Deme 2023.12.22.

Dear Readers!

Christmas has come, the end of the year is approaching. Despite a period of turmoil behind us, Hungary has managed to reach the end of 2023 in peace, safety, prosperity, a proud and sovereign nation.

As we pride ourselves in what we call “value-based” journalism, we have put the values that hold our national community together in Hungary, in the neighboring countries and across the world through the Hungarian diaspora, in the forefront of our professional concerns. Biased only towards our homeland, our nation, we have made every effort to inspire our international readers with our country’s achievements, fighting spirit, as well as desire for peace. We have stayed entirely independent of any political or financial interests, and have fought fiercely to counter the negative, distorted narrative about Hungary that currently dominates global media reports.

In the next few days we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Our understanding of European values, of the freedom of speech, and of human dignity stem from the Christian roots of Hungarian statehood. As unfashionable and outdated as this ethos might sound to some in post-secular, multicultural Europe, we are not afraid to say this.

Finally, we thank you for both, your positive recognition, as well as your criticism. Thank you for the thousands of comments and emails, we have learnt a lot from you, and made changes to our reporting accordingly. Although Hungary Today cannot brag about having the most readers in the world, we certainly think that we have the best ones.

Merry Christmas everyone!
