Hungary is a major beneficiary of its economic relations with China and serves as an excellent example of how much can be gained from a cultured, civilized cooperation between Eastern and Western companies, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on Sunday in Budapest.
At a meeting with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, the Minister emphasized that Hungary is a major winner in the cooperation between the two countries. This success also depends on our country’s continued ability to win investment competitions against Western European countries for projects coming from the Far East.
We have been successful in this competition so far. Last year, one-third of all Chinese investments in Europe came to Hungary. Each of these was won in extremely fierce competition against other Western European countries,”
he underlined.
“Currently, four out of the five largest ongoing Chinese corporate investments in Europe are taking place in Hungary. These projects enable Hungary to stay at the forefront of the global technological revolution,” he added.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also greeted His Excellency Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, saying on X: “We stand for a mutually beneficial cooperation, based on trust and respect.”

Péter Szijjártó highlighted that Chinese investments have created tens of thousands of new jobs in Hungary in recent years, represent the highest levels of technological advancement, and contribute to Hungary’s ongoing export records.
President of Hungary Dr. Tamás Sulyok also welcomed the collaboration and emphasized the cultural links between China and Hungary.

“We are also leading in terms of air traffic, as no other Central European city — including Vienna — has as many direct air connections to major Chinese cities as Budapest does: 21 flights per week currently link Budapest with major cities in China,” he reported.
