Negotiations are currently underway with four major Chinese companies that could result in new investments worth eight to ten billion euros coming to Hungary, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó revealed on Monday.

The minister said after his fifteenth meeting with State Councilor Wang Yi, director of the Central Foreign Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China, that Hungary benefits a lot from cooperation, which is also essential for Hungary to emerge stronger from every crisis.

He pointed out that for environmental reasons, a political decision was made in Europe to make the transport sector green, which requires electric cars and batteries, and that the market leaders in the latter field are by far the Eastern companies, including the Chinese.

Szijjártó called the negotiations successful, resulting in a number of agreements on Chinese investments that have brought the most modern and environmentally friendly technologies to Hungary, creating thousands of jobs.

“Let us not forget that we were able to announce the biggest investment in the history of the Hungarian economy – the Chinese battery manufacturer CATL in Debrecen – in the darkest year of the global economy. And a series of negotiations are underway with four major Chinese companies, which once concluded, could bring eight to ten billion euros in new investment to Hungary,” he said.
