Since 2010, the government has prioritized a stable Hungarian economy, fostering resilient families, and supporting family formation, ensuring progress in challenging times, said Ágnes Hornung, State Secretary for Families at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation.
She highlighted that various family benefits have continued to increase, with
the maximum childcare allowance more than tripling since 2010 and child home-care allowances doubling in the last five years.
The rise in minimum wages has elevated the maximum childcare allowance to HUF 373,520 (EUR 987) gross, and the allowance for graduate parents has increased to HUF 186,760 (EUR 493.7) for bachelor’s and HUF 228,200 (EUR 746) for master’s programs.
Starting January 1, 2024, the home-care allowance for parents caring for dependent children (who are unable to support themselves) has also risen, compared to its introduction in 2019, when it was HUF 100,000 gross (EUR 264) monthly. Furthermore, those receiving the “graduate childcare allowance” will see an increase from the same date, with the January benefits being reflected in the February payments.
The government has committed to annual increases, aiming to align the benefit with the minimum wage by 2022.
In 2024, with the minimum wage hike, the child care allowance is set to reach HUF 266,800 (EUR 705.5). Additionally, the maximum sick childcare allowance for working parents caring for a child (in case of illness) under 12 has increased, with the maximum daily amount rising to HUF 17,787 (EUR 47).
Starting in January, these benefits will be automatically increased.
