Colonel General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the General Staff of the Defense Forces, embarked on a pivotal three-day visit to Qatar. Invited by Lieutenant General Salem bin Hamad bin Mohammed bin Aqeel Al Nabit, Chief of the General Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, the bilateral meeting aimed to identify potential areas of military collaboration between the two nations, honvedelem.hu reports.

Qatar has shown particular interest in collaborating with the armed forces of NATO member states. In the past, the Arabian Gulf country has hosted the headquarters of the Atlantic Alliance’s air operations in Afghanistan, among other places. Currently, US, French, British, and Turkish troops are stationed in Qatar, which boasts one of the world’s largest reserves of natural gas and oil.

During his diplomatic mission, General Böröndi visited the Qatar Ground Forces Command, where he observed the simulation center for the PzH 2000 self-propelled guns and Leopard 2A7 tanks, which are identical to those installed in Tata.

He also toured the Al-Udeid airbase, home to foreign troops and the Al Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Attiya Air Academy. This academy provides high-quality training overseen by a multinational team of instructors. The delegation received a detailed tour of the Qatar Air Force Academy’s training complex.

Fact

The Hungarian Defense Forces and the Qatari Armed Forces possess several types of armaments in their land-based military equipment pool: the PzH 2000 self-propelled gun, the Leopard 2A7 medium tank, and the Ejder Yalcin armored fighting vehicle (known as Gidrán in Hungary). The similarity in their combat assets lays a solid foundation for establishing training and operational cooperation between Hungary and Qatar.
