The Festival Academy Budapest (FAB) will organize a Winter Festival featuring concerts as well as literary performances at the Hotel Palota in Lillafüred (part of Miskolc in northeastern Hungary) between January 24 and 26.
Launched last year, the Winterfest is part of the annual program of the FAB that was founded 10 years ago by Barnabás Kelemen and Katalin Kokas.
The festival offers morning and afternoon tea and salon concerts, literary performances, talks, and evening concerts.
The programs will feature performances by Argentine pianist José Gallardo, violinist and Hungarian conductor András Keller, Austrian violist Nora Romanoff-Schwarzberg, harpist Andrea Vigh, cellists Dóra Kokas and László Fenyő, theater artist Zoltán Bezerédi, and bassoonist Tamás Benkócs, the organizers told MTI.
Gypsy music will be represented by Lajos Sárközy Jr. and his orchestra, and the audience will also meet Gáspar Kelemen, a student at the Menuhin School in London, and Hanna Kelemen, an acting student at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow, Scotland.
In the production of the Imre Kertész Institute, Imre Kertész’s Kaddis (Kaddish for an Unborn Child) will be performed by Salamon Eredics (accordion), Dávid Eredics (clarinet), and Miklós Lukács (cimbalom), accompanied by Katalin Kokas and Barnabás Kelemen.
János Mácsai, music historian and host of the festival, will introduce the audience to the mystery of numerical mysticism through the music of Bach, and will also share behind-the-scenes secrets of German composer and pianist Felix Mendelssohn’s family.
This year, the FAB festivals will be joined by Springfest, which will be held in the Őrség (region in western Hungary) in May.
Registration is required for some concerts, subject to hotel occupancy.
