A thematic day focused on Hungarian watermelon will be held in the Ópusztaszer National Heritage Park on Saturday.
From noon until the evening, visitors can watch the work of melon sculptor Attila Tanács, and there will also be an impromptu exhibition of the finished works. The skanzen will welcome visitors with games, folk music, and folk dance. Children can enjoy an interactive playhouse.
In the early afternoon, a watermelon weight guessing competition will give everyone a chance to see how accurately they can estimate the weight of a large watermelon.
Melons have been grown in Hungary for centuries, as the country’s geographical and climatic conditions favor the development of this crop.
