BYD Management Takes Up University Courses in Szeged

Hungary Today 2025.05.12.

The management of the Chinese electric car factory in Szeged is most interested in European law and HR training. The University of Szeged (SZTE) will soon launch specialized training courses tailored to the needs of the factory, Index reports.

Training has already begun for eight to ten people, the Chancellor of the University told Index. According to Judit Fendler, the university is cooperating with BYD in several areas: for example, environmental measurements for the Szeged investment are being carried out by a team of accredited experts from SZTE. In addition, the University’s Clinical Center has already submitted a bid to provide healthcare services.

The Confucius Institute also operates within the Hungarian educational institution, where there is growing interest in Chinese language learning and cultural programs,

added Fendler.

According to the chancellor, SZTE signed a training cooperation agreement with a university in Xi’an almost three years ago. In the joint computer science program, participants spend two years in Szeged and two years in China. After it became clear in December 2023, that BYD would build its European factory in Szeged, the Chinese university announced that it would send development engineers to the Hungarian city in the Southern Great Plain.

Fact

Chinese automotive giant BYD has signed a cooperation agreement with six vocational training centers in the Southern Great Plain region and the University of Szeged last week. In the agreement, the parties set out the steps that will enable young people participating in the training to build a career at the company in the future.

Gábor Gan, director of BYD’s presidential office in Hungary, said that the agreement lays the foundation for long-term cooperation between the concerned parties. The cooperation is not only aimed at expanding production capacity; BYD wants to establish a real knowledge center in Szeged. As part of the program, the company will provide practical training opportunities for students in vocational and higher education, as well as professional training for recent graduates.
