Budapest Zoo’s Biodome to Host a Unique Light Art Exhibition

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.02.16.

From March 1, unique works of art by Hungarian and foreign light artists will be on display in the Biodome of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. As a special feature of the exhibition, the public will be able to visit the entire interior of the Biodome for the first time.

The light art exhibition will be open for more than two weeks, and will include site-specific light art and audiovisual installations, each inspired by a natural phenomenon, specially designed for the Biodome, the zoo announced. As they wrote, the interior of the architecturally unique facility features hundreds of intelligent lamps, projectors, and high-performance slide projectors brought to life by domestic and foreign light artists, creating a unique lighting environment.

The organizers not only consider the works unique, but the special location makes them more exciting than any other similar show.

The three million liter giant aquarium designed for sharks is a perfect example, which itself is transformed into a magical work of light art.

The Lightdome project is an initiative of COLLOC Productions, the organizers of the INOTA contemporary audiovisual festival program, and Centrum Production, in partnership with LaLuz Visuals, known for its monumental light paintings, and internationally renowned light artist Karl Kola.

The Lightdome will be open from March 1 – 17, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the evenings. The doors will always open at 5 p.m., and the zoo recommends that visitors start their visit at 9 p.m. at the latest to allow enough time to explore the exhibition until 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the zoo’s online platform and on site. The zoo’s website encourages everyone interested to buy tickets early, as they are available at a discount from February 15th to the 29th.
