The Budapest metropolitan council has so far provided shelter to 1,500 refugees from Ukraine and distributed over 10,000 portions of food, the mayor said on Tuesday.
Gergely Karácsony said on Facebook that “judging from the news about this senseless and cruel war, we can be sure that the number of people in need of help will rapidly increase”.
He said he had consulted with district mayors about further tasks because in order to give quick help to refugees “we must work together even if we all know that receiving and looking after refugees is a state task”.
