During the days of concerts by global music stars such as Guns N’ Roses, Lionel Richie, and Jennifer Lopez last week, Budapest experienced a 10% increase in the number of tourists compared to that of the previous week, Visit Hungary announced on Wednesday.
“Music legends had a significant impact, particularly on domestic visitors: for instance, on the day of Axl Rose and his band’s performance, the number of Hungarian guests in the capital was one-third higher than the previous week,” the statement read.
Data from the National Tourism Data Service Center confirms that between July 14 and 20, Budapest accommodations recorded 175,000 guests and 347,000 bookings.
The positive impact of international stars’ performances on tourism is illustrated by the fact that guest numbers increased by 10%, and bookings rose by 8% compared to the week before the major concerts, says the statement.
It was added that these “tourist magnets” are not only vital for tourism due to their immediate impact on visitor numbers.
Through the social media posts and shares of star performers and their fans, our messages about the experiences available in Budapest and Hungary can reach millions more, encouraging them to visit or return,”
said Olivér Csendes, CEO of Visit Hungary.
Foreign visitors accounted for 86% of the traffic. The majority came from the United Kingdom (8%), Germany (7%), the United States (6%), Poland (6%), and Spain (5%).
The data also shows that during certain concerts, the number of visitors from neighboring countries surged significantly. For example, on the day of the Guns N’ Roses performance, four times as many Croatian tourists arrived in Budapest, and during Jennifer Lopez’s concert, three times as many Slovaks arrived compared to the previous week.
