As Mandiner reports, the British website Weloveholidays.com has ranked the 30 most popular UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The ranking is based on the number of five-star ratings for each World Heritage site on TripAdvisor and the number of positive Twitter posts shared in the last six months. A maximum of 100 points were awarded for each heritage site – the more points, the higher the ranking.
Budapest topped the popularity ranking with 53.8 points.
More than 124,000 positive Twitter posts and 4,393 five-star ratings were recorded by the list’s creators.
Lübeck in Germany came in second place. Lübeck received 1,355 five-star reviews on TripAdvisor. In addition, the Holsatian city surpassed all other places on the hit list with more than 127,000 positive Twitter posts, earning a total of 51.5 points. The Tower of London came in third place with more than 45,000 five-star ratings and around 20,000 Twitter posts.
Other places in the top ten include Antoni Gaudí’s works in Catalonia; the Alhambra, Generalife and Albayzín in Granada; and the Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens in Vienna.
