Budapest among Safest Cities Worldwide

Hungary Today 2023.04.05.

In order to make planning easier for women who want to travel alone, but think twice about in which country  it is safe enough to do so, a travel site has published a list of the safest cities.

Travel site WayAway has studied over 200 cities around the world to determine the 30 safest cities for women traveling alone. The results are based on interviews with locals, examination of the latest safety reports from various sources, and independent safety rankings.

24% of women had canceled a trip before because they feared for their safety.

According to Time Out magazine,

Budapest tops the European list and the Hungarian capital also ranks third worldwide.

First and second places are respectively occupied by Iceland’s capital Reykjavík, and Puerto Rico’s capital San Juan.

Among the top 30 EU cities were also Madrid (5th), Munich (8th), Berlin (10th), Vienna (16th), Barcelona (18th), and Prague (29th).

Talking about the list and women’s safety concerns around travel, WayAway‘s Head of PR and Communications, Janis Dzenis, said: ‘Not only though is there a moral case for making female travellers feel safe, there’s an economic one too – destinations and travel providers who can give female travellers safety assurances will be able to increase their sales and loyalty from an audience that makes up…well half the world!’
