This year, passenger traffic at Liszt Ferenc International Airport could break all previous records. By the end of September, the airport handled almost as many passengers as it did all of last year, reveals a VINCI Airports press release on commercial aircraft movements.
As Airportal.hu reports, in the first three quarters of this year, a total of 13 million 22 thousand passengers were handled at the airport, an increase of 7.8 percent compared to the same period in 2019, and 19 percent compared to last year.
In 2023, the number of passengers at Budapest exceeded 14.7 million for the entire year, a figure already reached in the first nine months of this year.
The number of aircraft movements was 2.3 percent higher than the record year of 2019.
Liszt Ferenc Airport registered 5,161,000 passengers in the third quarter, up 9.9 percent on the same period of the record year in 2019, and 20 percent more than last year. The airport recorded 35,683 take-offs and landings in the third quarter, up 17 percent on the same period in 2023, and four percent more than in 2019.
The release highlights that Budapest’s routes to major European capitals were particularly busy in the third quarter, thanks to significant increases in seat availability by the two main airlines,
