Budapest Airport has seen unprecedented traffic of freight and passengers this year, writes Világgazdaság. Budapest Airport, the operator of Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, has won the Cargo Airport of the Year award and Terminal 2 is now officially an accessible area.
In the first ten months of this year, almost 14.7 million passengers made a stopover at the airport, not only exceeding last year’s figure by 19 percent, but also the previous record year of 2019 by 8 percent.
The growth in passenger numbers did not stop in October, when 1.6 million passengers used the airport.
The most popular destinations for departing passengers in October were London, Istanbul, Milan and Paris.
Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport has won the Cargo Airport of the Year award in the European region at the Payload Asia Awards in Singapore. The award was given for the development of air cargo transport and the cooperation between the cargo community in Budapest, with the Hungarian capital’s airport beating major European airports such as Vienna, Brussels and Liège in the competition.
In the first ten months of the year, almost 241,000 tons of cargo were handled at the airport, up 50 percent on the same period last year, from January to October.
Compared to October last year, the volume of cargo handled at the Hungarian capital’s airport increased by 45 percent to 29,000 tons in the tenth month of this year.
It should be also noted that Budapest Airport is participating in the Danova Next project, aiming to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and reduced mobility. Within the framework of the initiative, experts independent of the airport operator carried out an accessibility survey at Terminal 2 of Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, resulting in the terminal being awarded Access4you certification.
This confirms that the terminal is accessible to wheelchair users, people with reduced mobility due to age or other reasons, people with cognitive disabilities, people with assistance dogs and people with strollers.
In addition, the airport operator has recently introduced a number of services to support equal opportunities.
