The Royal Palace of Buda Castle, designed by Alajos Hauszmann in the neo-Baroque-Art Nouveau style, was completed at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its ornate exterior and interior, its vastness, and unrivaled location made it one of the most glamorous royal residences in Europe. The Second World War caused terrible damage to the complex, and it was rebuilt in a simplified form from the 1960s onwards, stripped of its remaining ornaments, recalled the National Hauszmann Program on its Facebook page.
As part of the National Hauszmann Program, the palace will soon be restored to its original appearance and most of its interior spaces will be rebuilt, writes Magyar Nemzet.
The enfilade, a series of halls that run around the first floor and interconnect for hundreds of meters, will also be reborn, making the fragmented parts of the building passable and accessible again.
In addition to the restored historical and sacred spaces,
visitors will be able to enjoy temporary exhibitions, art galleries, cafés, gift and bookshops, a children’s world, a family center and educational spaces,
they wrote.
Reconstruction work will continue on St. George’s Square after the Southern Connecting Wing, which was opened on August 20, 2021. Specialists are already working on the reconstruction of the North Wing on St. George’s Square and will continue to work in a southerly direction. Renovation of the Ballroom Wing will soon begin and plans are already underway to renovate the Dome, the Baroque Wing, and the South Wing, which will house the Palace’s education center.
