“This is not just an exercise, but a key step in developing joint defense capabilities and facilitating future crisis management operations,” said General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defense Staff of Hungary, in Hajmáskér (western Hungary).
A delegation of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) visited the “Brave Warrior 2024” EU international exercise, writes Magyar Nemzet. During the six months of the Hungarian EU Presidency, General Robert Brieger, President of the EUMC, chaired the second biannual meeting of the organization outside Brussels.
The three-day meeting concluded with a military highlight, a complex live-firing exercise and a tour of the Hungarian Defense Forces’ central firing and training range, as well as a demonstration of the state-of-the-art military equipment procured under the Hungarian force development program.
The Chief of the Defense Staff of Hungary stressed that the exercise provided an opportunity for cooperation between the participating countries and for strengthening defense capabilities. He noted that in the changing security environment,
the EU must play a greater role in guaranteeing its own security. New challenges require military development and the deployment of new weapon systems.
Hungary is firmly committed to strengthening the European defense industrial base, underlined Gábor Böröndi, adding that the current security situation requires a concerted effort.
General Robert Brieger said that the exercise, demonstrating Europe’s military capabilities and tactical level cooperation, illustrated the common commitment to guarantee peace and security in Europe.
The exercise and the routine acquired will enhance capabilities and make operational procedures smoother,”
he explained, praising the teamwork of the units participating in the exercise. Speaking about the Hungarian light infantry company offered to the European Union Battlegroup, the General recalled that it will play a significant role in the high-visibility exercise of the Union (LIVEX) to be held in Germany in November and December 2024, while strengthening the Union’s military rapid reaction capability.
He believes that the EU’s common military strength will soon reach full operational capability, enabling the EU to respond rapidly to any crisis situation.
“Multinational exercises are of particular importance, as they will not only develop the individual skills of soldiers but also play an important role in strengthening cooperation. The “Brave Warrior 2024″ was a real-life exercise aimed at demonstrating the EU’s military capabilities in planning and executing an operation to evacuate non-combatants,” underlined Böröndi.
The exercise, which started in the first days of October, tested the capabilities of the Hungarian rifle squadron offered to the European Union Battlegroup. The tasks were successfully completed by the assigned unit.
In addition to the Hungarians,
Slovak and Romanian soldiers also participated in the joint training event.
In addition to the exercise, the Chiefs of General Staff were also treated to a static demonstration of the newly acquired, capability-enhancing modern military equipment of the Hungarian Defense Forces, including the Leopard 2A7HU tank, the PZH 2000 self-propelled gun, and the Gidrán multipurpose armored vehicle, among others.
