Hungary’s largest national flag has a surface of 6×12 meters, so it is 72 square meters, making it the largest flag that can be hoisted. The red, white, and green flag is on the Budapest Citadel and is now a daily reminder of the heroes who gave their lives for Hungarian freedom, according to a statement from the Castle Headquarters Development Centre.

Hungary’s largest national flag is located on Gellért Hill, next to the famous Citadel, which is currently under renovation.
During the renovation of the fortress, the experts have already cleaned the building complex and assessed the condition of the walls and ceilings. They have also completed a leakage system along the entire inner line of the fortress walls, which will help to hold the walls in the future.
The aim of the reconstruction of the fortress is that the once ‘feared’ citadel can now be claimed by the Hungarian people. The work includes the restoration of almost 10,000 square meters of the fortress’s outer walls and the renovation of the inner courtyard.
Within the fortress walls, a new public park of more than 6,000 square meters will be created, including a fountain, a pond, a variety of flora, and a panoramic café. The western turret will be filled with cultural content, such as a spectacular exhibition about the Hungarian freedom fights, installed on more than 1,700 square meters.
