A conference on military catering was organized in Székesfehérvár (central Hungary), with the participation of experts and commanders of various divisions, aiming to achieve a complete reform of the Hungarian Defense Forces’ catering.
General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defense Staff, stated that “only thirty percent of a healthy lifestyle is sport; the remaining seventy percent is nutrition.” However, both are essential for soldiers serving in the armed forces to stay healthy, a fact that “must be in everyone’s well-understood interest.”
Let’s find a way to improve the physical appearance, health, and general well-being of the soldiers of Defense Forces,”
he concluded.
Attila Takács, Major General and Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff, stressed that
the conference on food and nutrition will mark the start of progress in an area of military development that, despite its importance, has not been in focus so far.
Among other topics, the conference included presentations on the possibilities of renewing the army’s food supply, changes in the nutritional needs of different age groups, and trends and challenges in the field of nutrition.
In the interest of the reform, the Hungarian Defense Forces signed a cooperation agreement with the Hungarian University of Sports Sciences and the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, so representatives of these institutions also participated in the event.
The next conference, scheduled to take place in October, aims to formulate specific recommendations based on the measurements taken so far, to further advance the reform efforts.
