At the 21st Balaton Wine Competition, the largest wine contest of the Balaton Wine Region, the best wines were selected by a professional jury from more than 200 wines this year. 41 producers from the six Balaton wine regions brought 204 wines: 139 white, 33 red, 17 rosé, 10 sparkling, and five semi-sparkling wines competed, Turizmus.com reports.
The list of judges was enriched by renowned authors and wine academics, in addition to the region’s winemakers. The south Balaton wine region was not only strong in rosé and red, it also produced the best sparkling wine. The Badacsony region provided the winning dessert wine, while the winning white wine was named from the Balaton-Highlands region.
