Kata Blanka Vas finished fourth in the road cycling world championships on Saturday, achieving the best Hungarian women’s world championship result.
The 20-year-old finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, and two weeks ago she won a silver medal in the U23 group. This time she was also in the lead among the adults.
The Italian Elisa Balsamo won the gold medal ahead of the favorite, three-time world champion Marianne Vost of the Netherlands. Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma finished third just ahead of Vas, who finished fourth after having to avoid the Italian leader in the final meters.
