Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orbán for his unwavering support after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against him and one of ministers. Netanyahu lauded PM Orbán’s “moral clarity” and rapid invitation to visit Hungary amid mounting international scrutiny, writes Világgazdaság.
Shortly after the ICC’s announcement, Viktor Orbán invited Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Hungary, stating in a radio interview that the warrant was “brazen” and “added fuel to the fire.” The Israeli Head of Government quickly accepted the invitation, expressing gratitude for Mr. Orbán’s stance.
In the face of the shameful weakness of those who lined up against the State of Israel’s right to self-defense, Hungary, like our American friends, has shown moral clarity and steadfastness on the side of justice,” Mr. Netanyahu said.
The ICC accuses the Israeli PM, his former defense minister, and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif—declared dead by Israel—of genocide and other war crimes. The arrest warrant has sparked a polarized response, highlighting divisions within the international community over Israel’s actions in its conflict with Hamas.
The #ICC arrest warrant against Prime Minister @netanyahu is brazen, cynical and completely unacceptable. I invited Prime Minister Netanyahu for an official visit to Hungary, where we will guarantee his freedom and safety. pic.twitter.com/uRDoP307uL

Hungary has strongly opposed the ICC’s decision. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticized the warrant as “a disgrace to the international court system,” aligning Hungary firmly with Israel.
Viktor Orbán further assured that Hungary would not enforce the ICC decision, reflecting its ongoing support for Israel and skepticism toward international legal bodies.
The Hungarian PM’s invitation and Benjamin Netanyahu’s acceptance underscore the close ties between Hungary and Israel. Mr. Netanyahu’s appreciation of Hungary’s “steadfastness on the side of justice” highlights their shared opposition to what they perceive as overreach by international institutions.
