“Hungary is a key state that does not pursue a ‘blend-in’ foreign policy, but also assumes regional representation of interests, and advocates a different set of values in relation to the transformation of the world order,” said Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director and Chairman of the Board of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium, at the presentation of his book Huszárvágás (Hussar’s Cut) in Győr (western Hungary).
Mr. Orbán explained that there are two ways of dealing with change: either we can relate to it emotionally or we can see it as a natural law and try to deal with it, because change happens even if we ignore it. He added that we can decide how we react. In his new book, he suggests that we should try to find our options, our framework for strategic thinking.
He pointed out that Hungary, although it has an excellent geographical location, is not very significant in demographic terms, but it is important in terms of its technological development and its export.
Over the last thirty years, it has become capable of producing what is needed and also of making that product competitive in the rest of the world.
The country’s size means that it cannot work only for the internal market, so its economy is complex. It can perform well in many sectors and it can develop exports. He stressed that thanks to our location, “we can be a gateway to the European Union and the Balkans.”
The key-state position gives the Hungarian economy a new breakthrough trajectory in the coming years, given its specific situation.
The politician emphasized that there is no way of knowing what will happen in the world, but the policy of ‘bloc-building’ is not the solution. It is not good for Hungary; it is dangerous, because among other things, it blocks off opportunities for escape and it is also a geopolitical threat. In his view, the policy of bloc-building does not strengthen the development position of the United States of America, but speeds up the process of change.

he said, continuing that Russia has not collapsed- it has been able to diversify its economy and has strengthened its ties with China.
According to Balázs Orbán, we need an approach that says no to bloc-building and is based on interconnectivity, so that unilateral dependence is eliminated, sovereignty is strengthened, and the spectrum of the economy is broadened.
