The Kisfaludy ferry of Lake Balaton has been especially busy this year, having carried one million people across the lake by last Thursday, Bahart told state media. The company responsible for Balaton’s boating expects a 20-year traffic record this year.

58 thousand more cars have been transported by the Balaton ferry this year than in 2020. By last Thursday, the number of passengers had grown by almost 150 thousand, roughly an 18 percent increase. The traffic of cyclists between Szántódrév and Tihanyrév grew by more than seven percent as well.

Balaton Boating Plc. added that passenger boating traffic grew as well, the 485 thousand passengers of this year far surpassing last year’s number by more than 101 thousand percent. Bahart expects roughly 600 thousand passengers in individual boating by the end of the year.

The 175th passenger boating season ends on August 29, but the ferries will be travelling throughout the year.
