Austrian Light Aircraft Approaches Paks Nuclear Plant

An Austrian Piston aircraft flew into the forbidden, three-kilometer zone of Hungary’s Paks nuclear power plant, in central Hungary, the plant’s communications director told MTI late on Friday.

Gripens of the Hungarian military were alerted and they escorted the Piston to Szeged, Antal Kovács said.

The Gripens had been scrambled at about 5 pm after the Austrian pilot had failed to contact Hungarian aviation control on entering the country, the defense ministry said earlier.

The jets were alerted for a second time on Friday afternoon for a similar reason when a Moscow-Belgrade flight reported a bomb threat.Continue reading
