A significant milestone has been reached at the Audi Hungaria plant in Győr (Northwestern Hungary). The one millionth Audi Q3 has rolled off the production line. This anniversary coincided with the renewal of the strategic cooperation agreement between Audi Hungaria and the Hungarian government, which was originally signed in 2013.
Gerd Walker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Audi Hungaria and Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics at AUDI AG, praised the importance of the Győr site within the Group. He emphasized that the products manufactured in Hungary and the services provided by Audi Hungaria are not only unique but also of crucial importance for the entire Audi Group. The production of the one millionth Q3 unit is clear proof of this position.
The Chairman emphasized that Audi Hungaria is a key pillar in Audi’s global production network and at the same time a central pillar of the Hungarian economy,”
in which the automotive industry plays a key role. In addition, the Hungarian subsidiary makes a significant contribution to the competitiveness of the entire Group.
Gerd Walker also emphasized the close cooperation with government agencies. He recalled the initial strategic agreement in 2013 and its recent extension, which creates a framework for future developments in Győr. This cooperation is intended to further strengthen the company’s presence in areas such as services, education, and science.
Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó emphasized the strategic importance of the renewed agreement.
The main goal is to encourage Audi to continue choosing Győr as a location for new investments, thereby strengthening Hungary’s economy and supporting its rapid transformation into new dimensions.”
The minister emphasized the shared vision of success in the new era of the automotive industry, which is characterized by electromobility. It was agreed that Audi should play a leading role in Győr in industrial modernization processes such as robotization, automation, and digitalization. Furthermore, the aim is to master the challenges of energy supply jointly and efficiently. The agreement also aims to expand Audi’s presence in Győr beyond production into new segments such as services and research & development, and to intensify cooperation with the university and vocational schools in Győr.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that
Győr and Audi Hungaria are among the oldest, most stable, and most important pillars of the Hungarian automotive industry.”
In the three decades since it began operations in Győr, Audi has invested 5.2 trillion forints (around 13 billion euros). The company now employs over 12,000 people, aims to reach the two million mark in engine production and the 200,000 mark in car production annually, operates in a climate-neutral manner and is a key factor in Hungary’s export performance.
Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria, recalled the beginnings of vehicle production in Győr with the Audi TT models, followed by the A3 Cabriolet and the sedan. Series production of the Q3 models began in 2018. Last year, more than 179,000 vehicles were produced in Győr, including around 163,000 units of the Q3.
