The latest auction at Vienna’s Dorotheum auction house has hammered home Habsburg relics, including the personal belongings of Emperor Franz Joseph (1830-1916) and his legendary consort, Empress Elisabeth of Austria (1837-1898), widely known as Sisi.
According to Mandiner, at the auction in Vienna, the Empress’ Hungarian-style velvet coat sold for EUR 62,400. An oil painting of the popular queen fetched EUR 48,100 at Tuesday’s auction, according to the Dorotheum auction house.
Her personal riding crop sold for EUR 16,900.
Several personal items belonging to her husband, Emperor Franz Joseph, were also auctioned off. The monarch’s riding boots went for EUR 7,800, and his spectacles sold for EUR 19,500.
The auction not only included personal items belonging to Franz Joseph and Sisi, but also various court and royal relics from the time of Maria Theresa (1740-1780) onwards.
According to the Vienna auction house, there was great interest in the personal objects of the imperial couple.
