Áron Szilágyi Wins Sabre Gold at FIE Grand Prix in Padua

Hungarian world number one fencer, Áron Szilágyi, won the gold medal at the 2022 Sabre Grand Prix. The three-time Olympic champion defeated American Cody Ji and German Colin Heathcock 15-10, Frenchman Tom Seitz 15-5, and Romanian Iulian Teodosiou 15-6 in the main draw of 64.

In the semifinals, he beat Eliott Bibi of France, who had defeated András Szatmári, also from Hungary, 15-11 in the previous round, and then defeated Gu Bon Gil of South Korea 15-14 in the final, according to the Italian tournament’s website.

The 2017 World Champion and 2019 World Championship silver medalist Szatmári finished fifth, Csanád Gémesi reached the last eight, while Miklós Péch was eliminated in the first round after a brilliant qualification.
